Irish Heritage Center Maine
Wedding Photography Guide
For couples looking for grand architecture and a sense of history in the heart of the city, the Maine Irish Heritage Center is unmatched. As a Maine wedding photographer, I am always struck by the "Old World" feel of this former cathedral. With its soaring ceilings, intricate stained glass, and historic woodwork, it provides a dramatic and soulful backdrop for an urban Portland wedding.
My Thoughts
This venue is a photographer’s dream because of the scale. The way the light pours through the stained glass creates a mood that is both reverent and celebratory. I love that it’s located in Portland’s West End, allowing us to combine the epic, architectural shots inside the center with the charming, brick-lined streets of the city right outside the front door.
Favorite Photo Spot
The choir loft is the "secret" spot here. Getting a wide shot of the ceremony from above captures the full scale of the architecture and the magnitude of the moment. For couple portraits, I love using the grand wooden doors at the entrance—they provide a timeless, stately frame that looks like it belongs in a European city.
Nearby Food
You are in the heart of Portland’s food scene! Walk a few blocks over to Bramhall. It’s a modern speakeasy located in a historic basement—the atmosphere is moody and cool, and their burgers and craft cocktails are top-tier.
